Maple Chocolate Meltaways

A pop-em-in-your-mouth treat for the holidays!

Something I’ve always been around but have not really mastered was tempering chocolate. It’s something that we do down at my family’s fudge shop, and I’ve studied up on the correct temperatures at which we keep chocolate stored, how to temper it, and how to cool it when finished using it in a candy recipe. But for some reason, I can’t quite get my chocolates at home to temper quite right! I find the double boiler method quite finicky for my hands… but still, I keep trying!

However, I wanted to make something simple enough and quick for a friendly gathering at my house, so I decided to utilize my microwave to make some chocolate meltaways. They’re a simple little chocolate treat that can be flavored a few different ways. In this case, I chose to keep it fairly simple yet still sweet, and added maple sugar to the mix.

  1. Place the chocolate and oil in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave for 30 seconds, then in 10 second increments until the chocolate has melted. Stir until completely melted and smooth.
  2. Slowly sprinkle in maple sugar and still until completely blended. Leave enough maple sugar behind to drizzle over top the chocolate.
  3. In a 9x9 in. pan lined with parchment paper, gently pour in the chocolate. Sprinkle remaining maple sugar on top and let it set, about 2-3 hours. Cut into small squares, and enjoy!
